Eagle Coach Training before December Roundtable

Many Troops need to have an Eagle Coach Counselor among their Leaders to help the Life Scouts get to the peak! Before our January Roundtable, (6:30 – 7:30) we will be having a training for your Eagle Coaches on ways to help these Scouts. Our regular Roundtable meeting will begin at 7:30 pm.

Commissioners Minute

Think of the Scout Law for a moment. What is the most important work in the entire Scout Law? That would be the word IS. A Scout IS...
Be the Leader and example for the youth, Do Your Best at being all of the Scout Law.

Greetings Lakeview!

Starting a New Year, I think it's a natural tendency to reflect on the year prior-what went well and what could've been better in your personal and professional lives. With that, you make those Resolutions like losing a little weight, spending more time with kids, and reducing those stressors at work. That sounds like my list too.

I'd like to challenge all of the Lakeview Scouters and Unit Leaders to make those New Year's Resolutions that benefit the Scouting Program and the Youth in your Units. Here's a couple of easy suggestions.

Get you and the Direct Contact Leaders in your Unit trained! See Doug Hancock's section below on Leader Training. Many of these programs are on line, easy to complete, and go a long way to ensuring your Unit is delivering the promise of the Scouting program to all our Youth. I think I'm a little old fashioned but I still like the in person training too. Having the ability to interact with Experienced Scouters is a huge plus. If you need a little help getting started with a training Resolution, please reach out to Doug.

Trout Fishing. The council has several dates in Late January and early February for Trout fishing at Tahuaya for Boy Scouts and Venturing: Sat Jan 27, Sun Jan 28, Sat Feb 10 and Sun Feb 11. The Fishing and possible the Fly Fishing merit badges will be taught. It's a lot of fun and good to eat. Please check the council website for last dates in Feb.

Leader Recognition! I'm sure each of your Units has those great Scouters who go above and beyond in so many ways and they truly deserve to be recognized. The District Level Awards are a great way to recognize their commitment and hard work.

  • The Award of Merit recognizes those Scouters who rendered noteworthy service to their Unit.
  • The Emeritus Award celebrates those Scouters who still do so much even though their young one has aged out.
  • The Fleur-Dis-Lis Award recognizes who work to deliver the Scouting program at the Unit, District, and Council Level.
  • The Family of the Year Award calls out that Family who worked as a team to help make a difference.
  • The Lakeview Award is another great way to recognize that Scouter who excelled at serving the Youth at the Unit level.
  • Last but not least, the Lighthouse Award is for the Scouter how provided special leadership to the Scouts of Lakeview District. The nomination forms are listed on the Lakeview website for download

The 2018 nomination forms must be returned by March 15th and those selected will be recognized at the Lakeview District Awards Reception held on April 5th in place of our Roundtable. Find the forms and previous year's honorees on our District Website:

There are opportunities to recognize Scouters at the Council level as well. The Silver Beaver Award recognizes those Scouters who've given exemplary service to the Council. The Silver Beaver nomination forms are on the LHC website and due to Council by March 1st and if selected, presented at the Council Awards Banquet in May.
